Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Please review the following questions below before reaching out to us! If you have additional questions or concerns, you may email us at sasehack@saseconnect.org.
1. Can I still participate in SASEhack if I didn’t attend the kickoff?
- Yes, you can! The kickoff was largely an informative session on SASEhack and a team formation event. We will be reiterating the same information and MORE during the SASEhack opening remarks.
2. How many team members can be in a team?
- We heard you, and have answered! We have bumped up the maximum amount of team members a team can have to FIVE (5). With this increase, we are now enforcing a minimum team member count of THREE (3).
- Tldr. Teams are required to have 3-5 members.
3. How can I form a team?
- There are multiple ways you can form a team!
- Join our SASEhack Slack server and advertise your need for a team in the channel, #need-a-team
- Upon registering for SASEhack through Devpost, you should have been able to see dropdown selection on your team status. Select on “Looking for a team,” and then you should be able to find and reach out to other participants looking for a team as well!
- We will have an additional team formation activity after welcoming ceremonies at SASEhack for those who have not yet formed a team.
- (Applies to both points above) Recommended for all: Be proactive and don’t wait for people to come to you. You have a higher chance of finding a team by reaching out to others. :)
4. Do I need programming experience to participate in SASEhack?
- Not at all! Experience is good, but only 20% of the project solution relies on technical merit, so everyone has a decent shot if the team is able to apply the remaining criteria well.
5. This is my first hackathon. Can I still participate?
- We have compiled multiple resources to use during the hackathon for first-timers and veterans alike! They will be posted on Devpost shortly~
- Tips from us!
- Don’t stress! This is a learning experience :)
- Ask people for help. Organizers, mentors, and sponsors are all here to help you succeed. After all, everybody was in the same beginner state at some point.
- Google anything and everything. Oftentimes, someone else will have had the exact same problem at some point in life, and it’’s probably on StackOverflow somewhere.
- Have fun!
6. It does not align with the challenge topics, but can I create an open-challenge project relating to the theme?
- Project submissions must be related to the challenge topics as our judging criteria is based on this.
7. I missed the registration deadline. Can I still sign up?
- Unfortunately, no. If you did not previously email us before the deadline that you would be registering late, you may not participate in SASEhack this year.
- SASEhack has been a typically small-scale hack. Due to the pandemic and flexibility and opportunity that a virtual hackathon provides, SASEhack has seen it’s largest number of registrants, and we have to cap the event at 150.
8. Who are the mentors and judges?
- Mentors and Judges will be announced on the day of the hack!
9. What do I do If I miss check-in during SASEhack?
- Email us at sasehack@saseconnect.org. We will get you checked in.
